S2E6: UTSA Rugby - Coach Peter Lewis, Flyhalf Caleb Ackerson - c/o 2021, & Prop, David Phillips - c/o 2020 & 2022

Episode Summary

In this episode we speak with Coach Pete Lewis (coach since 2012), Caleb Ackerson former Flyhalf c/o of 2021, and David Phillips former Prop c/o 2020 & 2022. Both Phillips and Ackerson were both named to the D1AA National Players List for their respective positions, and both have represented UTSA internationally. We get a chance to talk about how rugby began at UTSA, coach's involvement in the player development over the years, and how these two players have been influenced to do better through their experience with UTSA RFC. The purpose of UTSA Rugby is to form an organization of students, faculty and staff members of UTSA who are interested in playing and learning the game of rugby. As an organization they want to afford UTSA students the opportunity to join a collegiate organization. A focused initiative of the club is to gain recognition for The University of Texas at San Antonio within the rugby community around the country and even overseas. Overall, our goal is to grow the game of rugby by giving students the opportunity to come out and learn rugby or further their skills if they are already an experienced player. UTSA RFC wants to provide this opportunity by competing with other universities here in Texas, all around the country, and even by offering chances to compete overseas and represent Texas and the United States.
