In this Veterans Day Episode we speak with Lt. Colonel Casimiro "Cas" Benavidez-Perez about his journey in becoming a leader in the United States Space Force. During his time at UTSA, he spent all four years in ROTC, was a student ambassador, and was Mr. UTSA in 1997! His long military career reflects his love for our country, and his pride for UTSA is ever present. Lieutenant Colonel Casimiro "Cas" Benavidez-Perez is Chief, Space and Missile Domain, NORAD and NORTHCOM Command and Control Center, Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado. North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) conducts aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning in defense of North America. United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) conducts homeland defense, civil support, and security cooperation to defend and secure the United States and its interests. Colonel Benavidez-Perez was commissioned through the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Texas in San Antonio in 1998 and completed Undergraduate Space and Missile Training and ICBM Initial Qualifications Training in 1999. His career involves numerous command assignments, including Missile Combat Crew Commander, Flight Commander, Air Force ROTC Detachment Commander, Deputy Group, and Deputy Garrison Commander. Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Benavidez-Perez was the Air Force Element Commander and Chief, China/Democratic People's Republic of Korea Cross-Functional Branch, Joint Information Operations Warfare Center (JIOWC), The Joint Staff.
